Iain Soutar

Iain Soutar is Senior Lecturer in Energy Policy at the University of Exeter. He is working on policy, governance and behavioural aspects of energy system transformation. His research and teaching focuses on developing a better understanding of processes of change - and inertia - in energy and other complex systems, and the implications thereof for meeting policy, as well as broader societal objectives. His work integrates social, environmental, and political perspectives across scales to explore the relationships between technological innovation, social innovation, organisational responses give rise to broader system transformations. He co-founded ExeterEnergy, the interdisciplinary network of over 150 energy researchers at the University of Exeter. Within EnergyRev, Iain worked on Work Package 4 to understand 1) how SLES project partners engage users and communities, and 2) how the public understands and relates to the concept of local energy systems.
